In Spain aside from Spanish we have other 3 languages. Gallego, Catalán y Vasco the last one it is used in pais vasco and is very difficult to understand for the rest of the spanish, and even for the vasque people themselves.

Galician it´s widely talk in Galicia specially in rural areas and have a lot of similitudes with Portuguese. Galicia is the spanish region at the top east of the map just above Portugal.

The catalan and some differently named but scencially identicall languages it´s used in Catalonia, Mallorca, Valencia and other areas.

In fact almost everybody that speaks this other languages understand and it´s able to use spanish, but they don´t always want. If you speak spanish you won´t have any problem to find people to talk with you in Spanish in these regions (Cataluña, Galicia, Pais Vasco) specially if you are not spanish.

Let´s beguin talking about SPAIN

  • Spain has aproximatly 45 millon people population
  • Spain it´s in the Iberica Peninsula, what is in the South West of Europe, Portugal it´s shares con Spain the peninsula and it´s one of the colindant neighbours of Spain. Frace is the other country with a terrestial border with the country. In Spain Marocco is frequently consider as our South neigbour, thoug there is the Mediterraneum sean separating the main territories. At the North there is the Cantabric Sea and a lot more of free water till you reach Great Britain or England or Uk or whatever you like to call them. But spanish don´t usually consider UK as it´s neighbour nor Itally that is at it´s west crossing The Mediterraneum again
  • There are 17 "comunidades autonomas" (autonomic communities) that are sort of "states" of USA but here there have les competences, thought far more than in most other countries. Spain happens to be one of the more decentralizated countries of the world.
  • Here are the names of the "comunidades autonomas"

  • Galicia
  • Asturias
  • Cantabria
  • Pais Vasco
  • Navarra
  • Aragón
  • Cataluña
  • Valencia
  • Murcia
  • Andalucia
  • Castilla la Mancha
  • Extremadura
  • Madrid
  • Castilla Leon
  • Baleares
  • Canarias
  • Ceuta
  • Melilla
Las two, actually are special territories located in Marruecos, they could be considered more like towns.
